Monday 9th October
A first for The Blue, a comedy night uniting beer and groundbreaking scientific research.
Cambridge boasts one of the highest numbers of pubs per capita in the the UK, and also leads the world in biomedical science (amongst other things). So we’ve got together with The Stem Cell Institute and Moonshine Brewery’sRegenerator project. WE think it’s a great chance to bring some cutting-edge science to the pub and some cutting-edge beer to the scientific community.
We’ve cajoled some comedians with a scientific background into taking to the stage in the spirit of scientific excellence in the name of beer (or the other way round if you like)! We’ll have an introduction and a few stand-up acts as well as plenty of Regenerator on draught and in bottles on our festival bar. We invite you to come along and try the beer as well as the myriad selection we will be putting on for our festival. In fact we’re so enthusiastic that we’ll even give you your first pint of Regenerator as part of your ticket price if you book in advance, so it’s an absolute no-brainer!
Time TBC – £4 (includes free beer!) in advance, £3 on the door (no free beer!)
We’ll also have our immensely successful collaboration with Nene Valley, Manhattan Project, re-brewed! When we brewed this, it was enjoyed across Cambridge, Peterborough, Norwich and Leicester amongst other places!
Wednesday 11th October
BrewBoard Invasion! Cambridgeshire’s newest Craft Micro is barging its way into the city, steaming its way through the seas of Greene King IPA and that-which-shall-not-be-named continental-style, contract-brewed-in-Northampton drinking liquid. We’ll be showcasing all four of their core beers in all three of our city pubs: The Royal Standard, The Blue Moon, and of course here at the Blue.
from 7.00pm – FREE ENTRY
Thursday 12th October
International Beer and Food Pairing! – In association with Duvel Moortgat, we bring you a taster of home-made, internationally-inspired dishes with some awesome beers. Most food and drink pairing events will start with the food and pair a beer or, more often, wine, with that particular dish. We’re a beer pub so we’re starting with the beers we want you to drink, and designing a dish around that, so hopefully, you’ll agree with our pairings. Courses tbc
Time TBC – £tbc – limited spaces available
Friday 13th October
Live music this weekend kicks off with Allotment, self-styled ‘standing still dance music’, is the perfect genre for beer-drinking because there’s less chance of falling over! Acoustic guitars, bass, strong vocals and, if you’re really lucky, a hurdy-gurdy. If you don’t know what one of those is, come along and find out, because all our gigs at The Blue are free to attend, and hurdy-gurdys are incredible instruments that have a totally unique sound.
Time TBC – FREE!
Saturday 14th October
Private event in the marquee 4-8 and then LIVE MUSIC…
Tonight we are delighted to welcome a very special guest. John Wheeler has played over 1200 shows in 33 countries all over the world, and has just returned from a rollercoaster tour of Scandinavia with his band Hayseed Dixie. You might have heard of them. They are the acknowledged creators of their own musical genre, Rockgrass. There are many converts and disciples to the genre out there performing today. In the year 2000, there weren’t.
“I enjoyed this and . . . on further investigation . . . it’s not good . . . it’s fabulous!” – Brian May, Queen
“The Hayseed’s berserk hedonism is indeed refreshing! ***** (5 Stars)” – The Guardian
“This is great! I can’t wait to get the royalty check!” – Gene Simmons, KISS
High praise indeed! John will be playing a selection of re-worked classics, you’ll probably recognise them, maybe not straight away, but you’ll know them! Plus some original material deemed suitable for the beer-drinking masses.
Starts 8.30pm – FREE! – yes, an international, genre-defining superstar, here, in The Blue, FOR FREE!
